The Musician
Maestro Indradeep Ghosh is one of the premier violinists of India and a trailblazer for the Maihar Gharana. Born into a music loving family in Kolkata, he was encouraged by his parents, Tapati and S.N. Ghosh, to select a bow instrument of his choice as stroked and percussion instruments were prevalent in his family. His brothers play the sitar and tabla. When he picked up his first violin he almost considered it a toy as it was so small. He then began lessons at the early age of six. He completely credits his mother for cultivating his interest in the violin as she nurtured and encouraged him to develop his musical abilities.
His first experience with the spotlight was at the age of 10 where he performed on television for the first time. The following year he gave his first public performance. His early success and numerous accolades deepened his interest in the violin and he gradually fell in love with it. He continued to perform in many concerts and recitals throughout high school and university. After graduating from Calcutta University with a political science honors he decided to pursue music as his profession since it was his true passion.
In 2006, Indradeep traveled abroad and performed across Europe for the first time, something he immensely enjoyed and continued to do regularly. Over the years he has extensively performed all over the world and was featured in some notable events including the 10th Asia Festival in Barcelona, SXSW Music Festival at Austin, USA, Learn Quest Music Festival, Boston, USA, Tansen-Tyagaraja Music and Dance Festival,
Rajamundry, India, Festival Du Bout Du Monde, France, the YOMAD Festival in Croatia, Yoga—Vidya Music Festival in Germany to name a few. He has performed throughout Europe including Germany, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Denmark, Croatia, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland and has toured all over the USA.
He has collaborated with several western musicians such as Grammy winning Kora player Mama Dou Diabate, Jazz Organ Monster Tony Monaco, virtuoso Guitarist Fareed Hague, and versatile Flutist Pedro Eustache. He is an “A” grade artist of All India Radio and performs regularly for National Radio and TV Channel in India. In 2016, he received Akademia Music Award for an album, Melodic Intersect: One Vision He has performed throughout Europe including Germany, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Denmark, Croatia, Belgium and the Netherlands and has toured all over the USA. He has also collaborated with several fusion bands worldwide.
He is a regular performer for All India Radio and the TV Channel in India. He has also exclusively composed music for the 2008 Kolkata Children’s Book Fair. In 2016, he featured in album Melodic Intersect: One Vision, which has received the Academia Music Award.
Maestro Indradeep’s contribution to his field of music has fetched him several recognitions such as “Nobel Order of Record in Human Excellence” from Cultural Book of Records India and for his outstanding contribution to the Indo-American community for his artistic leadership and service, the City of Houston honored him the “Proclamation” stating October 15, 2017 as Indradeep Ghosh Day.
Indradeep is currently serving as an Artistic Director for Global Creative Arts Academy (GCAA) in Houston and Austin, Texas centers also as an instructor at School of Indian Percussion and Music (SIPM), Austin, Texas, USA.
